Zombies & infection: getting bitten is a choice
In most survival games a bite is game over. In Zeverland it's a fork in the road: cure it — or embrace the infection, rebuild yourself out of corpse parts and keep playing as a zed.

The Red Rain and the world's infection levels
The apocalypse began with the Red Rain — and Zeverland starts in its first minutes, not years later. The 24 × 24 km map is layered by infection level: low zones where survivors settle, and deep red zones where the world turns hostile and the loot turns strange. (Some store listings cite "5,000 km²" — that figure is marketing copy; the layered 24 × 24 km world is the developer's own description.)
Bitten? You decide
- Cure yourself. Standard survival: treat the wound, keep the crew alive, stay human.
- Embrace it. Collect corpse parts — "尸材" in the dev's own framing — and assemble them onto your body to shift into zed form.
Playing as a zed isn't a costume: rebuilt parts grant different abilities, and pushing the path far enough leads toward becoming a zombie king. The trade-offs — how far you can push infection before it's permanent — weren't fully documented in playtests.
Zed types
Early access is planned to ship with four core zed variants. Their names and behaviors haven't been published yet — this section becomes a proper bestiary (/zombie-types/) with real stats when the demo or early access lands.
World projects: curing the map itself
The endgame is bigger than your camp. Servers work toward world projects — huge shared goals with different endings:
- The great Purifier — a miracle device meant to cleanse infection zones.
- The vaccine race — including a rumored half-infected serum route: keep your zed abilities, keep your mind.
- Go underground — flee the surface entirely.
- Reforest the land — push nature back against the red.
Servers run in seasons, so each world's story — and its ending — eventually resets. Which ending your server reaches depends on what the community builds, kills, and spares.
